Floating Shelf with Brass Brackets
Mount a solid wood shelf that looks intentional, not improvised. Covers stud finding, leveling, and finishing the wood.
Instructions
1. Select a solid wood board, 1x10 inches by 36 inches long.
2. Sand the wood board with 120-grit sandpaper until smooth.
3. Stain the wood with 1 cup of walnut wood stain using a foam brush; let dry for 1 hour.
4. Measure and mark the wall to locate the studs using a stud finder; mark the stud locations at 36 inches apart.
5. Level the wood board on the wall and mark the bracket locations 2 inches from each end.
6. Drill pilot holes into the wall at the marked bracket locations using a 1/8 inch drill bit.
7. Attach the brass brackets to the wall using 2-inch wood screws; ensure they are anchored into the studs.
8. Place the wood shelf onto the brackets and secure it with 1-inch screws through the brackets into the shelf.
