Mushroom Log Inoculation

Instructions

1. Select a hardwood log, approximately 4 feet long and 6-8 inches in diameter.

2. Drill 20 holes into the log, spaced 6 inches apart, using a 5/16 inch drill bit.

3. Insert 20 shiitake or oyster spawn plugs into the drilled holes, ensuring they are flush with the log surface.

4. Melt 1 cup of cheese wax in a double boiler until fully liquid.

5. Using a paintbrush, cover each spawn plug with melted cheese wax to seal them.

6. Place the inoculated log in a shaded, humid area, ideally between 60-75°F (15-24°C).

7. Mist the log with water every few days to maintain humidity during the incubation period.

8. Wait 6-12 months for the first flush of mushrooms to appear.
