Vintage Lamp Rewiring

Instructions

1. Unplug the lamp and remove the lampshade and bulb.

2. Use a screwdriver to remove the socket from the lamp base by unscrewing the mounting screw.

3. Cut the old cord close to the socket using wire cutters.

4. Strip 3/4 inch of insulation from the ends of the new 18-gauge lamp cord using wire strippers.

5. Connect the new cord to the socket: twist the black wire from the cord to the brass terminal and the white wire to the silver terminal, securing with a screwdriver.

6. Tie an underwriter's knot with the cord to prevent strain on the socket.

7. Reattach the socket to the lamp base using the mounting screw.

8. Feed the cord through the lamp base and out the bottom, ensuring it is not pinched or damaged.

9. Attach the new plug to the end of the cord: connect the black wire to the brass terminal and the white wire to the silver terminal, securing with screws.

10. Test the polarity of the plug using a multimeter to ensure correct wiring.

11. Reassemble the lamp by securing the socket and replacing the lampshade and bulb.
